The Possibility of Life comes out in paperback on March 11, one week from today as I’m writing. I kind of don’t know what to make of paperback launch. On the one hand, it’s a big milestone, and an achievement—not every book gets to have this second life, and I’m grateful mine does. On the other hand, it’s the same book, essentially even the same cover, so nothing really new is happening? On the third hand—back to that first hand, I think—it’s an excuse to do some stuff, visit new bookstores and talk about the book (which I wrote, like, three years ago, I vaguely remember that?) and, I dunno, honestly hope some new people hear about it and read it.
I’m ambivalent about what paperback launch means but not about my enjoyment of getting to do book events like this, and I’ve got three very different kinds of events coming up: a classic reading-and-convo-and-Q&A at a bookstore, a talk at a university, and a reading series. If you’re local, I’d love to see you! Here they are:
March 19 in Providence, RI, I’ll be at Riffraff in conversation with the brilliant and lovely Elisa Gabbert. Info for that is here!
April 2 in New Haven, CT, I’m giving a talk at the The Franke Program in Science and the Humanities at Yale, and talking with Franke Program Director Priya Natarajan and anthropologist Lisa Messeri (author of Placing Outer Space, one of the best and most influential books I read as research when I was writing mine). That’ll be a 4pm event, info will eventually be here but I’ll send out details before it happens.
April 8 in Kingston, NY, I’m reading in Rough Draft’s Night School Reading Series. That will be a 6pm event, details also to come.
I’ll be posting updated info for all of these at jaimegreen.net/events. And yes I have noticed that the two bookstores I’m reading at are combination bookstore/bars. It’s the future!
If you work for a bookstore or university or museum or library or any other organization that would like me to come talk or read or do an event, I would love to! You can email me at jaime@jaimegreen.net, or just reply to this newsletter.
And if you want to buy my book in paperback, of course please do??? Please especially consider buying it from Bookshop.org or your local indie, or my local indie, River Bend Bookshop, where you can request it be signed and personalized, just add that info in your order’s note.
xxo
Hoping to see you at the PVD event!
