My book comes out on Tuesday. The next time it’s Tuesday, my book will be out. Or maybe it’s sort of out now? My boss at Smith got his preordered copy yesterday (copies, two, because he’s an angel) and held one up to my office door window like this, but in a nice way:
The book’s already gotten a review, wildly and blessedly (for my stress levels) early, from The Wall Street Journal, who called it “alive with the color and drama of science fiction as well as scientific fact.” No objections from me!
In terms of news you can use, the most important thing in this email is a change to my book tour schedule. (Now with three events, I feel more comfortable calling it a tour.)
NYC & online: April 19 I’ll be at Books Are Magic Montague (and streaming on youtube) in conversation with Leslie Jamison. Tickets (required for irl) and info here.
LA (this is new!): April 22 I’ll be at the LA Times Festival of Books, on a panel called “Current Issues: Inner Journeys” with Pico Iyer and Dacher Keltner, moderated by Carla Hall
CT (new date!): May 6 I’ll be at New Park Brewing in West Hartford, hosted by River Bend Bookshop, in conversation with Isaac Fitzgerald. Info & rsvp here.
I’m also doing an Instagram Live on pub day with Drew Broussard of the Golden Notebook bookstore, 2pm ET. Tune in to catch me at my absolute sanest.
ALSO, and you newsletter readers are the first to know this other than, like, my husband and my mom: this Friday, 4/14, I’ll be on Science Friday. Tune in at approximately 3:06pm, I’ve been told, or at the top of the second hour if you’re not listening live. (It’ll be on their podcast, too.)
Otherwise… this thing comes out Tuesday! If you haven’t preordered yet, I hope you will—preorders are very meaningful for setting a book on track for success (so are library requests!) and also I’m just excited for you to read it! If you’d like a signed, personalized copy, you can order one from my local indie, River Bend Bookshop, just make sure to order by Saturday. Sunday I’m going in to… sign copies… of my book??? I’ve been anticipating this for months—for years—and it still feels totally unbelievable.
The next few newsletters will probably be book stuff updates—there will be some excerpts coming out next week, and reviews, and I’m trusting that if you get this newsletter, you want to know about that. (I’ll keep it to once a week; if you want more instant updates follow me on twitter and/or instagram.) But eventually we’ll get back to essays and whatnot. Normal life resumes after a book launch, or so I’ve been told, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
xxo
Wow - speaking with Leslie Jamieson and Pico Ayer, lucky you!
