I both want to start this letter with an acknowledgement of how bad and weird things have been lately, in the broader world, and embarrassed by the impulse. We all know things are bad, no one needs a reminder. We’re also still going about our lives, in the basic ways and the big ones: showering, eating, making our kids laugh, embarking on years-long creative projects that will come into a world we can’t even imagine right now.
I dunno, life keeps moving and all, but I do wish the basics of my life and career didn’t require, right now, promoting myself here and on social media and whatnot. Wouldn’t mind a quiet office job for a bit. But here I am, and here we are, and here are some upcoming things:
This Thursday, 2/13, at 7pm ET, I’ll be joining Peculiar Book Club for an online discussion about my book. It will stream live here, and you can watch the recording at the same link any time after.
Then on Saturday, 2/15, at 1pm ET, it’s Scrivener for Creative Writers, my class on using this robust and often intimidating software for writing: organizing (and using) research, drafting, revision. Info & signup here.
For anyone in the Houston area, on Thursday 2/20 at 1pm local time (don’t make me do time zones right now), I’ll be giving a talk at Lone Star College, where my book is this year’s ReadUP campus read. This event is open to the public, info here.
I’ll have some more events in the spring, because—have I even mentioned this?—my book comes out in paperback in March! Same cute cover, just a little brighter and with that LA Times Book Prize Finalist sticker that, I will admit, means a lot to my heart:
You can preorder her at your local indie, Bookshop, or from my local indie, where you can have it personalized and signed. (Just indicate that in the order comments, along with what personalization you’d like.)
xxo
I'm excited about Saturday's class, and it feels especially nice to have something to look forward to this week, so thanks!
